Our staff is among the best in the industry. Mel Krieger, the guru of flycasting instruction, trained our instructors in his methodology. All of the teaching staff has been certified by the Federation of Fly Fishers as Casting Instructors or Master Instructors.

3-Day Fly Fishing Schools

Our 3-Day Fly Fishing Seminars are some of the most comprehensive fly fishing schools in the country. The focus of the 3-Day program is fly casting, starting with the basics and building up to the advanced. In addition, we offer workshops on entomology, reading the water, knot tying, equipment, and more.

Antelope Creek Lodge in the shadow of Mt. Shasta is our instruction campus and the classroom includes miles of private stream, and two pristine lakes. All equipment, meals, lodging, instruction, and full use of the angling options at the ranch are included in our clinics.

Graduates of our 3-day Seminars feel confident they can successfully tackle any fishing scenario.

1-Day Spey Casting Clinics

Our classroom is the Sacramento River, and instruction is held entirely on the water, using jet boat transportation to access gravel bars where techniques are learned and put to the test in actual fishing situations. Students choose between introductory floating line courses or seminars where advanced sink tip instruction is put into practice OTW (on the water), in practical moving water conditions.

3-Day Spey School

The Fly Shop® is excited to offer a 3 Day Spey School on the Klamath River at Gold River Lodge. Chris King, FFI Master and Two Handed Certified Instructor, will lead the instruction that will take you through basic Spey Casting principles to fishing with the two handed rod. Instruction will include Double and Single Spey Casts, Snap T, Snake Roll, and helpful techniques such as the Perry Poke. Also included will be workshops and discussion on Spey Equipment and Applications, Reading Water and Fishing applications.

Trout Clinics

The Fly Shop® has several clinics for those who are interested in improving their skills and knowledge to tackle fly fishing for trout in a variety of situations. These one day clinics offer expert instruction that will build upon basic skills in the Freestone Trout Clinic, to more specialized techniques presented in the European Nymphing and Trout Spey Clinics. These day long clinics are designed to take novice fly fishers to the next level and improve their knowledge base in each discipline. The clinics also provide ample time to pick the brains of our expert staff.

Each year we put together one of our 3-Day fly fishing schools, catered exclusively to women interested in learning more about fly fishing. Each instruction packed lesson builds on the previous session, preparing both beginning and intermediate anglers for just about any fly fishing situation, from Alaska to Argentina and everything in between.
